Entering this offseason, it was evident the Los Angeles Chargers had to make some tough decisions. We've said it repeatedly, and on Tuesday, it was the start of it.
The team announced that they had waived former All-Pro linebacker Eric Kendricks after one season. It was a homecoming for the Southern California native, and it was far from a pretty one.
Individually, he played just fine, but the decision was ultimately due to the deep hole the Chargers are in being over the cap.
Fans voiced their opinion on Twitter, and hardly any were surprised by the cut.
Absolutely no surprise to see the #Chargers release LB Eric Kendricks.

Gotta imagine we find out about Mike Williams soon. Chargers just released Eric Kendricks. Still holding onto some hope they rework his contract to be some kind of one year prove it deal.

I liked Eric Kendricks though. But it was a necessary move

It’s hard for me to like that the chargers cut Eric Kendricks. I really liked him but I understand why we did. I wish Eric the best of luck

This move freed up $6.5 million for the Bolts.
The one-time Pro Bowler signed a two-year, $13.25 million deal with the Chargers last offseason. In his lone season with the Bolts, he recorded the third most total tackles of his career, 117, 3.5 sacks, six passes defended, seven tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, and one forced fumble.
His play was overshadowed by the atrocious defense the Chargers would play week in and week out in 2023. Unfortunately, Kendricks won't be part of the reload the Chargers have constructed this offseason, but it is for the better.
This will be the start of some other significant decisions the front office must make. Buckle up for some further cuts LA will make in the coming weeks.
