Detroit Pistons Reveal Injury Timeline for Marcus Sasser
USA Today

At this point in the 2023-2024 NBA season, the Detroit Pistons are focused on the future. Knowing they won’t clinch a spot in the playoffs, a major area of focus will be on getting young players as many opportunities as possible to develop them further.

Pistons rookie Marcus Sasser looks to be an important piece for the future of the franchise. As Detroit’s 25th overall pick out of Houston, Sasser has shown flashes of being a reliable role player for years to come.

Unfortunately, Sasser is expected to miss some valuable time on the court during the final stretch of the regular season.

Last week, when the Pistons returned from the All-Star break to take on the Indiana Pacers on the road, Sasser was spotted in pain. Dealing with soreness in the knee, the rookie guard was somebody to keep an eye on for a potential absence moving forward.

He finished the Pacers matchup with just ten minutes of playing time. Although he was productive in that short amount of time, scoring nine points on six shots, Sasser couldn’t overcome the pain.

Two nights later, the Pistons returned to Detroit to host the Orlando Magic. The initial injury report didn’t feature Sasser, but he was added as the game approached. The guard went from being questionable to getting ruled out. Sasser was ruled inactive for the first time since Detroit’s December 30 matchup against the Toronto Raptors.

The Pistons didn’t anticipate having Sasser in the lineup for Monday’s game on the road against the New York Knicks. And with an official diagnosis on his knee revealed, the Pistons have placed a timeline on Sasser’s recovery.

According to Mike Curtis of The Detroit News, the Pistons plan to re-evaluate Sasser in approximately one week. Per Detroit’s injury report, Sasser is dealing with a knee contusion.

For the first time this season, Sasser is battling a setback that will keep him off the floor for more than two consecutive games. Based on the timeline, he’s set to miss the next four games, including Monday’s battle against the Knicks. The earliest Sasser could get back in uniform is on March 5, when the Pistons pay a visit to the Miami Heat.
