Cade Cunningham is the only answer for the Detroit Pistons

Cade Cunningham may as well change his name to Cade CunningHIM.

He's everything for the Detroit Pistons. Of course, that's expected from a former No. 1 overall pick, but Cunningham's growing star power and comfort in the top role has only been highlighted in his third season.

Everything else has gone wrong for Detroit in a season in which the Pistons will likely not even get 15 wins.

Cunningham's growth, and his ability to be a star in the NBA, has been the only bright spot this season. He's averaging 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.5 assists this season, and since coming back from a knee injury in late January, his efficiency has been way up, as he's shooting 44.3% from the field and 37.4% from deep.

Monty Williams' contract paid him $13M this season, which means he's averaging $1M per win. He's been terrible and should be fired when this thing closes out, but likely won't be because of his gigantic contract.

Rookie Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart will finish the season on the bench due to injury.

Second-year player Jaden Ivey has shown flashes, but he's far too inconsistent and may not even profile as a starter on a legitimate NBA team, which is disappointing for the fifth overall pick.

And then there's general manager Troy Weaver, who put together this atrocity of a roster, yet somehow still has a job and very well could still be the person making decisions as the Pistons go into the offseason with around $60 million in cap space.

Where's owner Tom Gores, who should be spearheading this revival? Who knows. He's absent, at best.

Frankly, the only thing the Pistons have going for them is Cunningham, and for as good as he's been, that's a sad statement considering this is technically year four of the so-called rebuild in Detroit.

At least the Pistons have one answer, though. Will they be able to do anything with it? Recent history would suggest that you shouldn't hold your breath.
