The Ohio State football team had their Spring Game on Saturday afternoon under perfect weather. It was the perfect setting for fans to come out and see the new team before the 2024 season starts. A lot of things happened in this game that should excite fans and some things that should worry them as well.

First off, Will Howard was the starter at quarterback. He didn’t do anything to change that on Saturday. While he didn’t look super impressive, he didn’t make any bad decisions with the ball either. Lincoln Kienholz looked like the worst quarterback on the roster and threw a couple of interceptions. Those are passes he can’t throw.

The Ohio State football team might have the best secondary in the country

One of the biggest stories emerging from the Spring Game was how well the secondary played. They showed that they might be the best secondary in the country. They locked up some extremely talented wide receivers. Davison Igbinosun and Jermaine Mathews were the two corners who really stood out with their performances.

Having a secondary like that is going to be crucial for the rest of the defense. It was an elite secondary a year ago and all of those guys decided to return to make a run for a national title. Those guys can bail out bad defensive line play or linebacker play, not that the Buckeyes are expecting to have bad play from either group.

Offensively, the run game looked good. Even though the starters weren’t tackling, the Buckeyes were able to open some holes with the offensive line. Chip Kelly seems to have those guys performing better than they did a year ago, at least in the run game. Pass protection was still an issue with the right side of the line. That needs to get sorted out.

The Ohio State football team still needs to get some work in. There are improvements to be made. It was still a good day for the most part. They even got a recruit before the game.
